Nissan Frontier Lift Kit Buying Guide & Tips

What Is Nissan Frontier  Lift Kit For?

Well, you are supposed to know actually what is a lift kit. But, still, for better understanding, I would like to remind it again. Basically, the Nissan Frontier Lift Kits are aftermarket kits used for lifting your vehicle high above from the ground. You will not get this kit from your vehicle’s manufacturer. Some companies used to produce this type of product for upgrading your truck.

For What Size of Lift Kit, I Should Go?

Well, you have a wide variety of choices. You need to go for the comfortable one.

However, it is seen that people remain satisfied with the 4 or 6-inch lift kit. Moreover, the lift kit size depends on the tire size too. You may find your 36-inch tire fit with a little kit. On the other hand, you have to go for the larger kit if your tire is larger.

Benefits of lifting Nissan Frontier

Well, I believe that you already know the benefits of lifting Nissan frontier kits. The lifting kits provide a good amount of ground clearance along with an aggressive look.

Without it, the lift kit will allow adding more larger tires to your vehicle.

How To Choose A Lift Kits For Nissan Frontier

Style Of Your Driving

Well, your driving style plays an important role while choosing the lift kit. This is the first thing where you need to pay heed. For example, if you wish to use your Nissan for off-road driving, then you will be heading down towards the highway. In this kind of situation, you need to consider the terrain where you will be driving. You have to go for the lift kit that will suit your terrain.

Lifting Purpose

Lifting purpose is also one of the most important factors to consider. You have to determine your purpose of use. For example, some people may use the lift kit to give the vehicle an aesthetic appeal or to make it look good. On the other hand, some may look for the lift kit for ground clearance as well as for protecting the undercarriage. It totally depends on you.

Lifting Type

Basically, there are several ways for lifting a Nissan frontier. The body kit and the suspension kit. Among them, the body kits ask for adding spacers for raising the body. This type of lift is the cheapest and easiest way. On the other hand, the suspension kit is the expensive one that will also do your job.

Size Of Tire and Height Of The Lift

You have to consider the size of your vehicle’s tire while choosing the lift kit. Different sizes of tires will ask you for different lift kits. In this case, you have to determine the size of the tire and then going for the kits. Because the 4-inch lift kit will leave more space than the 8-inch lift kit.

Model and Manufacturing Year Of Your Vehicle

Your vehicle’s model and manufacturing year also matter much. You have to evaluate your vehicle’s model. Different models will ask you for different types of kits. On the other hand, your vehicle’s manufacturing year will also ask you the individual type of lift kit. So, while choosing the lift kit, you need to consider your vehicle’s model and manufacturing year.

Robust Components

While getting the lift kit, make sure that you are going for premium high-quality components. These components will provide extra strength. They will act as a savior while you are off-road. The premium high-quality components will not break under tough conditions.

Various Interchange

You may be asked for some modification depending on your lift kit. For example, you may need to go for the longer brake lines if it does not fit. Without it, you may need to bring a driveshaft. So, before going to install your lift kit, you have to ensure other modifications too.

Installation process

It is well known that peoples always love to go for the easiest one. While talking about the easy installation process, the body kit is easy to install and also takes less time. On the other hand, installing the suspension kit is not much easy as the body kit. Whatever, it is not necessary that you will have to install the kit by yourself. You may hire an experienced or professional too for your help.

Price

Price always matters while choosing a product. You should never go for the cheapest one. You should go for the high-quality lift kit which will ask you to spend a good amount of money. But, it will pay its value.

Warranty

The high-quality and expensive lift kit is supposed to come with a warranty. To know which lift kit offers a warranty, you can talk with the shopkeeper. It is always recommended for the lift kit that holds a warranty. As a result, you will be able to exchange your lift kit for a new one in case of an accidental issue.

Frontier Lift Kits Types

In general, there are two types of lifting kits available in the market. They are: 1) Suspension lift kit and 2) Body lift kit. Each type of kit holds individual pros and cons.

The suspension lift kits are used for lifting the entire vehicle by physically enhancing the suspension height following some methods. Using the suspension lift kit, both frame and body are lifted.

On the other hand, the body lift kit is used in off-road vehicles like a frontier. The body lift kits are a bit cheap. They used to remove the body from the frame of your truck. In this case, you need to install some kits and blocks between them. After that, you have to rejoin them. Generally, the gap created among the frame and body will remain visible till you will not use gap guards.

How to Install Lift Kits on a Nissan Frontier

To be honest, installing the lift kit is a bit difficult. So, I recommend you to get a professional one unless you are an expert and experienced.

At first, you have to make sure that your vehicle is secured. For this, you can use a sturdy jack stands or a two-post lift position. After securing your vehicle, you need to remove both of the front wheels.

Then, you need to remove the 12mm ABS line retaining bracket from the spindle. Disconnect the sway bar end links on both sides. The ball joint cotter pin should be removed and discarded after disconnecting the sway bar.

After that, you need to loosen the upper ball joint nut. Don’t take off the nut. Just leave it loosely. Then, use a hammer for tapping the spindle to release the ball joint. Once you find the ball joint breaks free from the spindle, then you need to remove the ball joint nut and spindle.

Then, simply remove the lower strut mount nut. Leave the bolt in place until the control arm assembly can be supported from underneath. After that, you have to remove the upper strut mount nuts. Leave one loosely in place until you are ready to remove the strut from the truck.

Here you go for what you are waiting for. Now you have to install the new lift kit extension onto the top of the factory strut. Use the nuts that come with the kit for securing the spacer to the strut. Then, locate the existing hole in the front side of the upper control arm. Now use a 5/16 bit, drill the hole out.

Install the new provided bump stop onto the control arm. This will prevent the control arm from contacting the strut perch at full drop.

After that, you need to carefully reinstall the strut assembly back into the suspension. You should start by installing the upper mount nuts loosely followed by installing the lower strut mount bolt and permanently securing the hardware. Once you will find the lower mount is secured, return to the upper mounting nuts and permanently tighten all of them.

Then, jack up the suspension from the lower control arm to rise the knuckle up high enough to be able to pry the control arm down and install the ball joint back into the spindle. After that, install the provided new cotter pin into the upper ball joint stem and bend both ends over.

Your lifted frontier trucks required new alignment cams and bolts to achieve factory alignment specs. With the lower control arm supported, remove both front and rear LCA bolts.

Finally, install the new ready lift alignment cams and bolts and secure them. An alignment will be necessary upon completion of the installation.  That’s all you need to do for installing your front lift kits.
